OurStory
Untangled Roots is a Tennessee nonprofit corporation, founded in July 2022, building upon research conducted in the field since 2017. This crucial work continues and will advance in the years to come.
Though Untangled Roots is a new organization, we draw on the wisdom of nine generations of ecological, cultural, and economic knowledge, tracing back to 1807.
Our story begins with the pioneers who headed west from the original colonies, Revolutionary War veterans, and their families, embarking once again on a journey to the newly created states.

At Untangled Roots, we look to the future with hope and determination. Our vision includes collaborative projects that honor both the past and the future. We find common ground in partnerships forged in the past, sharing values with modern-day initiatives to tackle larger targets and goals from local to global scales.
